Baby It's Cold Outside

Merry Christmas. I made two yo-yo scarves out of a cake layer. The cake layer I used was "Nest" by Tula Pink. The first scarf I am wearing is the dark side of the spectrum. I kept this one and sent the other one as a present to my friend Jamie in Missouri. She got the one I am wearing in the next picture which is the lighter side of the spectrum. Each scarf took twenty yo-yos, and I used the Clover JUMBO yo-yo maker. Hopefully you know someone that needs a new scarf?

See the lighter colors in this scarf? Each scarf took one day to make, so if you still need a last minute gift. Why not try to make one of these fun scarves? Happy New Year, too.

Patchwork Puppy

Frontside of Patchwork Puppy!

Yo-yo eyeball detail!

Backside of Patchwork Puppy

Hi everybody,

I made a very huge patchwork puppy. I downloaded the free pattern from Handcock Fabrics. Look under free projects. I decided to use a yo-yo eye for it. I used the extra small yo-yo maker and the medium yo-yo maker to layers. The pattern called for 4 inch squares, but I was too lazy, and I didn't have the heart to chop my charm packs up. The charm packs are five inch squares. The dog stands 31 inches tall from ear to foot and is 22 inches wide. I used two 32 oz. packages of fiber fill. It use to be called puff and stuff when I was a kid. I love that name Puff and Stuff.

Over all, I used 27 front + 27 back +30 side =84 squares total. I used two charm packs, and I had to cut the other thirty out by hand (I sound like a big complainer here). The charm packs made it pretty easy to make. Fabrics I used are Sandi Henderson's charm pack Ginger Blossom, Tula Pink's Flutterby by Moda, Vintage Reproduction Fabric from '30's and '40's. I started a fat quarter club where I get the vintage fabrics sent to me once a month. Those are turning out to be a lot of fun. The other fabric in this pillow came out of my stash. Desperately Waiting for Jumbo Yo-yo Maker to get to my house. Happy sewing. Blessings.

Halloween star quilt in progress

This was posted on my blog 3 /07/08
progress
In case you all thought I forgot about this project, or scrapped it, I haven't; it was just put on the back burner for a while. I still plan on having it done for next Halloween. I have included one of my children as a size-sort of reference. She is a typical 6-year-old in size, if that helps all who wondered how big this was so far. End goal is big enough to fit on my double pillow-top king-size bed. I have a ways to go, to say the least.
still working on it

For those who are curious, I am still job hunting.

This is a work in progress that I work on in the car while my husband drives the first 1 hour of our commute and the last hour at night. So, it only is getting worked on two hours a day or less. When done, this will fit a 24 month/2T-size little girl. I don't have one of those; this is just an experiment with sheer fabric and yarn to try and make an image I had in my head. It needs 4 more yoyos around arm/neck openings. So far it is coming out as I thought it would. It also needs crocheted sleeves and the skirt part finished. The white part is the slip a 24 mos/2T-sized little girl would wear under the dress.

This last photo is not true to color, but it shows you how sheer the yoyos are

All the supplies in this project, from the fabric to the yarn to the thread, came from thrift stores at differnt times.

Busy Summer!

This bag is another Lazy Girl Design -Sassy! I just had to add the yo-yo detail to the front and back. I used the strip quilt foundation method because I am not good at choosing just one fabric. The directions are very clear. Make this bag; I recommend it.
This bag just screams summer. This is a modified Betty Shopper by Amy Butler. Say hi Pepper.

I used a tablecloth for the outside of the bag, and I bought it at Target for $2.98. The inside of the bag is lined with yellow, bandanna fabric and the pockets are made of a fun, yellow, strawberry print. I found this pattern diffidult to sew. That is why it is the modified Betty Shopper. I was unable to figure out the Timtex bottom, so I cut it out and finished it like a regular bookbag. This bag is very large! Pepper looks cute sitting in the bag. Overall, I am very happy with this sewing project. What a fun bag to carry around.

You can't forget the yo-yo detail. I cut this yo-yo out using the OLFA circle cutting tool on its largest setting. I so love this tool! Happy sewing!
